I wanted to learn this song to sing at my grandmother (sitti) Warda's funeral. As a 2nd gen Palestinian-American with little more than some written classical Arabic (and a few swear words) to show for, I was introduced to Baq for guidance, because as entertaining as it is to watch (referee?) Palestinians, Lebanese, Syrians, Egyptians, and Moroccans argue about translation and pronunciation as I tried to learn the song, I wasn't getting anywhere. So, Baq was essentially Switzerland, and I finally learned the song in time to sing it at my sitti's funeral. (It is a resistance song, which we all knew, but no one at the funeral did... except sitti.)
(Baq's handwritten transcription from audio)
